The world is facing a worsening youth employment crisis. Globally, more than 75 million young people are unemployed. In Nepal, more than 2 million youth are totally unemployed, according to studies. In 2010, TNW launched “ Youth Agro-entrepreneurship Scheme (YAS)” under the vision and leadership of Mr. BK Dalit (Founder-TNW). The program aims to provide “technical education, vocational training and further support” to young people to engage them on Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) based commercial agriculture and agro- entrepreneurship.
After the training, the program supports the youth technically for agro-enterprise registration/development, to have their access to land on lease, seed capital in the form of loan/grant, quality agricultural inputs, irrigation, machines, technologies, regular mentoring services and market.
The Program targets to train and support at least 100,000 young people to be agro-entrepreneurs/commercial farmers.Nepal's first farmer school is implementing this program. Till now, Nepal's first farmer school has trained and supported more than 2000 young people for commercial farming or agro-entrepreneurship.
