Child friendly/Eco-friendly School Program
TNW thinks that the goal of creating a clean, green, healthy, carbon neutral and sustainable society is almost impossible without making the future generation (children) capable for sustainable positive change. The future is in the hands of the children. School is the place where they learn to shape their and community's future. But during the course of TNW's environmental education campaign at rural schools in Dolakha district, TNW found that the children do not have child friendly, secure and eco-friendly school environment. Therefore, TNW has come up with this program that aims to improve the physical and natural quality of the school so that the children will have healthy, secure and resourceful school environment for better learning.
Project name: Saraswati Vidya Mandir Renovation Project
School: Saraswati Vidya Mandir
Project Location: Sunkhani VDC ward no 2, Dolakha
Saraswati Vidya Mandir is a primary school which is located in Sunkhani VDC ward no 2, Dolakha district. This school runs classes up to five grades. This school is considered as the school of Thami children and the poor children. There are 103 students at the school. Most of the students (35 children) hail from the Thami caste. Thami caste is considered as one of the socially oppressed castes in Nepal. Four children are from the Dalit community and the remaining 56 are from poor family backgrounds. Most of the students are from poor or socially discriminated backgrounds and some are orphans. The school has got very poor physical infrastructure which has deprived the school children to have an education at a good physical set up.
TNW has been able to raise the fund for this project with the help Society of University of Sussex Students Union, UK and TNW Nepalese volunteers. TNW now is renovating the school building. After the renovation of the school, TNW will work to make this school an eco-friendly school building.
Children Assistance Program
TNW has come up with this program to assist the children to have regular and quality school education so that the children will not be deprived of school education due to the lack of educational resources and inability of parents to afford for education.
Project name: Educational resources distribution program
School: Saraswati Vidya Mandir
Project Location: Sunkhani VDC ward no 2, Dolakha
TNW Nepal distributed educational resources like pencils, notebooks, pens to 103 school children of this school. The parents of the students are so poor that they cannot afford to buy the notebooks, pens and pencils for the children. The parents still do not have consciousness to send their daughters to school. They do not educate their children after five grades due to poverty. There is no system of scholarship for the Thami children so the number of Thami children attending the school is decreasing. |
